Every day, seven people die in U.S. home fires, most in homes that lack working smoke alarms, with children and the elderly disproportionately killed. As a first responder to these local tragedies, the American Red Cross wanted to do more. That’s why we launched our Home Fire Campaign in 2014 and began knocking on doors. We call this year-round canvassing effort Sound the Alarm, and in just over four years, we’ve made a tremendous difference, installing more than 1.5 million alarms nationwide and making a huge impact here in our community. Together with our partners, we’re helping make households safer and saving lives. Each spring, the Red Cross rallies volunteers for a nationwide canvassing push. This year we will install 100,000 new alarms nationwide. At the same time, we will raise home fire awareness through national marketing and media.
