Description:
Every family that has immigrant members should have an Emergency Family Preparedness Plan in case of detention or deportation. While we hope that families never have to use such a plan, it is a good practice to have one in place in case emergency strikes. The Bronx Immigration Partnership, working in collaboration with Yale Day of Service volunteers, hopes to inform, plan with, and empower immigrant families in the event of deportation or detention.

Volunteers will be trained on pertinent issues first thing in the morning, and then spend the rest of the day conducting appointments with clients, specifically focusing on drafting parental directives, power of attorney forms, custody and guardianship petitions, contact lists, and other emergency planning materials, in the event that a family member is deported or detained. Speakers of Spanish, French, or other foreign languages are especially encouraged to sign up. No specialized legal knowledge required.
