Join the Yale Club of Washington to volunteer at the Katherine Hanley Family Shelter in Fairfax, VA. The shelter could use assistance in organizing their Children’s Resource Room, Food Pantry, and Donation Room. If time permits, our group might also help with meal service.
The shelter is run by Shelter House, a community-based, non-profit organization with a mission to “prevent and end homelessness and domestic violence by engaging the community, building effective relationships and providing crisis intervention, safe housing and supportive services.
* Children are welcome, but we will just need to confirm that volunteering children do not attend any of the same schools as the children in the shelter.
* Given that the day after is Mother’s Day, we will likely organize another optional activity to create Mother’s Day gift bags/boxes with needed toiletries to give to the mothers in the shelter.
