7029 S Princeton Ave
Chicago, IL 60621
E2L’s original Learning Garden at 7029-35 S. Princeton Avenue occupies two vacant lots where frame houses from the late 1800s once stood on 10,660 square feet or almost ¼ acre. We began the Garden with community volunteers and Yale Elementary School students in 2011.
The Garden shows neighbors and visitors how to grow food organically and intensively in a small space like a city lot or backyard. Crops include annual vegetables and herbs, as well as perennials like berries. The Garden integrates landscape plants that offer food and shelter for beneficial insects and pollinators, enriching the neighborhood ecosystem.
Come join us for a spring day of garden prep work. Possible activities include mulching, weeding, and planting. Wear closed toed shoes, and bring gloves if you can. Tools will be provided.
Note: there are no bathrooms at the site, so please plan accordingly!
Children are welcome.
