Mercy Learning Center’s mission is to provide literacy and life skills training to low income women in Bridgeport, CT. The staff serves over 1,000 women per year, from over 50 countries of origin, and teaches English, Math, Science, Social Studies/Civics and computing/technology to prepare students for High School Equivalency diplomas, U.S. Citizenship exams, job interviews and college careers. MLC also offers social services, counseling, food and diaper assistance, childcare, and summer Family Literacy programs.
The motto of the students, faculty, staff and leadership is “Educate a Woman, Educate a Family. ” The success stories of the MLC students and their children are inspiring - MLC stories are here.
Last year… (2018-2019):
· 35 women earned high school diplomas
· 55 alumnae were enrolled in college or career certificate programs
· 123 women found new jobs
· 19 women became U.S. citizens
