Description:
This year Yale alumni in the Capital Region will return to Refugee and Immigrant Support Services of Emmaus (RISSE) where we volunteered last year. RISSE helps refugees and recent immigrants transition to life in the Capital Region by offering ESL classes for adults, after-school and summer programming for children and youth, and support with life skills and integration into U.S. culture and the local community.

We supported their work last year by painting a large upstairs classroom space, among other things. This year we will return to give other spaces fresh coats of paint, and complete a few smaller projects. There will also be a group gathering the night before (Friday, May 11) to finish prep work so that we can hit the ground running on Saturday morning. After registering, the site coordinator will contact you, and you will have an opportunity to indicate if you are available to help Friday evening, Saturday during the day, or both.

We will break for lunch – either bring your own or a dish to share for a group potluck that we’ll coordinate closer to the event.

Finally, RISSE collects donations of clothing, shoes, and household items to distribute to the people they serve. If you have items that you no longer need, bring them along. Contact RISSE first if you have furniture or appliances to donate to make sure they have an immediate need for them.

Join us on this 10th anniversary of the Yale Day of Service as we fill a need in our community while catching up with fellow alumni in our region!
