2017 Yale Day of Service

  • New Haven, CT - Everybody pitches in at Common Ground High School at this family friendly site co-sponsored by the Future Leaders of Yale (FLY).
  • Portland, ME: Members of the Yale community joined Partners For World Health for a day of sorting and organizing medical supplies that will be sent to developing countries or used for medical missions.
  • New Haven, CT: Faculty, students and staff of the Yale School of Public Health came together to give back to New Haven for the Yale Day of Service. One site was the Connecticut Food Bank.
  • Accra, Ghana: Alumni in Ghana provided career information to approximately 500 secondary and tertiary school children as part of the Yale Day of Service.
  • New Haven, CT: This family-friendly service activity was making cards for those who have Alzheimer's and dementia. New friends and cupcakes!
  • Morristown, NJ: Yale alumni and friends had a great time at their build for Morris Habitat for Humanity.
  • Dallas, TX: At Vogel Alcove, Yale families came together to build "Bye Bye Bags," snack bags for homeless children to take to their shelters.
  • Malibu, CA: With the Santa Monica Mountains Trails Council, alumni and friends took on trail work in beautiful Solstice Canyon.
  • Orlando, FL: Working at the Mustard Seed, members of the Yale community helped organize, sort and store donations in the organization's warehouse.
  • New Haven, CT: Alumni of the Yale swimming and diving teams joined with current Yale student swimmers and divers to provide a day of water safety and swimming instruction to New Haven schoolchildren.
  • Puerto Rico: Yale alumni in Puerto Rico worked with the Arecibo Rotary Club to train student leaders as part of a park revitilization effort.
  • New Haven, CT: Organized by current Yale medcial students and the an Association of Yale Alumni in Medicine, the annual Stetson Library Health Fair brings a number of services to the underserved population in this neighborhood.
  • Anchorage, AK: Yale Stream Team creek cleanup crew strikes again!
  • Westchester, NY: The SPCA of Westchester recieves all of its funding and support from volunteers and contributions. This mother-daughter pair was sharing some love with a young shelter resident!
  • Kent, WA: The Yale group was very productive in just two hours of work at Northwest Harvest.
  • New Haven, CT: Yale School of Public Health Dean Sten Vermund hard at work at one of the School's many Yale Day of Service sites in New Haven.
  • Boston, MA: At Birthday Wishes, kids and their families pack "Birthdays in a Box" with all the supplies needed for birthday parties for kids who live in homeless shelters in the greater Boston area.
  • Sofia, Bulgaria: Yale alumni and their families volunteered at the Sunday Soup Kitchen and helped by preparing the lunch meal for the approximately 400 guests who come to the soup kitchen each week.
  • New Haven, CT: Alumni and their families and friends, as well as Yale School of Nursing faculty and staff, led by Dean Ann Kurth, participated in their signature Yale Day of Service project, Newborns in Need. Take-home bags of supplies for low-income families filled with everything from diapers to books are supplied and stuffed at the Yale School of Nursing on the West Campus.
  • Minneapolis, MN: At Cedar Lake, Yale volunteers spent the morning cleaning and lining trails and removing invasive plant species.
  • Bozeman, MT: Yale alumni and friends worked with the Gallatin Valley Land Trust on spring upkeep at the Oyler Ranch Conservation Easement. A little rain did not dampen their spirits or their efforts!
  • New Haven, CT: As part of the international Yale architecture alumni program The Architect is IN, Yale-educated architects provided pro-bono services to local non-profit organizations.
  • Brookly and Queens, NY: At each of the two sites for GallopNYC, a theraputic riding program, Yale alumni helped assist with the lessons for people with disabilities who ride at each location.
  • Palm Springs, CA: Alumni helped with landscaping for a house owned by Well in the Desert that will be the home for a formerly homeless family.
  • Manhattan, NY: For the ninth year in a row, the Association of Asian American Yale Alumni volunteered at PS 124, the Yung Wing School named after the first Yale graduate from China.
  • Washington, DC: Yale alumni gathered at the Capital Area Food Bank site in the Urban Demonstration Garden to plant, paint, weed...and have a great time!
  • New Haven, CT: Leeway is an organization that promotes quality of life and dignity for people living with AIDS/HIV by providing inpatient and community treatment options and holistic care. Volunteers from the Yale School of Public Health led a painting party for the clients.
  • Chicago, IL: Volunteering with Share Our Spare, members of the Yale community in Chicago worked in their warehouse sorting infant and child donations.
  • Fair Lawn, NJ: Alumni, family and friends partnered with Ridgwood High School Project Interact Team to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer by participating in the Relay for Life.
  • Greenwich, CT: For a number of years, local alumni have helped with maintenance and improvements to the Ernest Thompson Seton Boy Scout Reservation.
  • Long Island, NY: At the Moriches Bay Oyster Project, members of the Yale community learned about the importance of oysters to the local ecology and helped by making oyster cages. At the end of the day, the group shared in a special oyster happy hour at a local restaurant!
  • Rochester, NY: Alumni returned to Cameron Community Ministries where they helped with a number of projects sponsored by this urban outreach organization.
  • Manhattan, NY: For the seventh year in a row, members of the Yale community prepared and served food at the Bowery Mission, an organization that has served homeless and hungry New Yorkers since 1879.
