In recognition of the impact that Mandi's courageous battle with cancer has had on efforts to save lives through marrow donor registration drives, the Yale athletic department will once again hold a drive in memory of women’s ice hockey player Mandi Schwartz (1988-2011). The Mandi Schwartz Marrow Donor Registration Drive at Yale, which is part of the nationwide “Get in the Game. Save a Life.” campaign for the Be The Match Registry®, will be held on Thursday, Apr. 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this year.
The drive, which takes place at Commons on the corner of College Street and Grove Street in New Haven, is open to the general public. Food will be served. A cappella groups will perform. Handsome Dan will also be in attendance. Please come out to support this great cause!
This event has already taken place, but you can show your support by finding another marrow drive in our area by clicking here to contact Be the Match.
How does the process of joining the registry work?
1. You must be in general good health and between the ages of 18-44 to register at the drive
2. Registering is very simple, and involves a swab of cells from the inside of your cheek (quick and easy!)
3. Swabbing takes less than 5 minutes
4. If you have swabbed at previous drives, there is no need to do it again, as you remain in the registry for life
This process is quick and easy, but is potentially very rewarding: YOU could save a life down the line! Hope to see you there!
Must be between the ages of 18 and 44 to join the registry at the drive.
