Description:

We will be supporting Isles this year for our service day. Isles fosters self-reliant families and healthy, sustainable communities.  This year we will be helping at their new headquarters for their urban agriculture and community revitalization initiatives located at Mill One in Hamilton.  The site includes an urban farm and a large warehouse.  Volunteers can choose between gardening projects outside as well as inside organization projects.

Their urban farm has multiple bee hives, chickens, and raised garden beds. We will be straightening up and weeding out raised garden beds (not near the bees) that haven’t been utilized for a season or two. The goal is to get those back in production for Isles’ farmers markets and their donations to emergency food providers in the area.

Inside the facility Isles stores most of their materials, tools, and equipment for their urban agriculture and community revitalization work.  We will be helping to reorganize all the tools to maximize space and set up new shelving.

In addition, we may have some other smaller projects including painting and raised bed construction.

Please bring garden gloves if you have them and wear closed toe shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty!

Please join us in our support of Isles!  Kids, family, and friends are all welcome.
