Share Food Program is a major hunger relief organization that serves Philadelphia, the Delaware Valley and Middle Atlantic through a regional network of community organizations engaged in food distribution, education, and advocacy. Share conducts several complementary food programs focusing on Emergency Food Relief, the Share Package Program for low-income families, Nice Roots Farm, Commodity Supplemental Food Program for seniors, Advocacy, and Partnerships.
Last year Share’s Emergency Food Relief Program brought more than 27 million pounds of food to over 500 local food cupboards. Share’s emergency programs have helped over 600,000 low-income Philadelphia residents each month; nearly 40% of them are children living in poverty and 12% are low-income seniors.
Share’s headquarters in Northwest Philadelphia offers us a single site with indoor and outdoor work options at:
The Warehouse - Sort, weigh and pack food boxes OR Data processing and related office work for applications.
Nice Roots Farm - Various planting and tending tasks at this urban garden with two Hoop Houses.
The site and options make this a family friendly event. Thanks go to Share’s Director of Development and Yale Public Health alum Mara Natkins for spearheading this initiative.
Attire - Wear comfortable clothes for work whether you work inside the warehouse or outside in the garden.
Tools - Supplies provided for warehouse work. Gloves and some tools are available for garden work, but feel free to bring your favorites.
