Oakland: WOW Farm Pop-Up Flower Sale

Sponsoring Club:
Yale Club of San Francisco
Saturday, May 13, 2017
10:00am to 2:00pm
1650 Wood St
Oakland, CA 94607
Each year on the Saturday before Mother’s Day, WOW Farm harvests flowers, makes bouquets, and sells them at a pop-up location. Most of this event will take place at a small urban farm in West Oakland where we offer job training internships to youth. You can learn more about the internship program at wowfarm.biz.
Some of the logistics of the event are still being worked out (namely, the location of the pop-up stand) but if this sounds fun for you, please sign up and we will keep you posted on the details. Perhaps you want to come in the morning and help our youth crew with farm-work and harvest; perhaps you’d like to make bouquets; perhaps you’d like to take a shift at the pop-up sale selling flowers to customers and telling them about the great work we do. There is something for everyone at this event, and we promise it will be fun.
The WOW Flower Farm is located in front of the dilapidated but majestic 16th Street Station that served as Oakland’s Amtrak station until the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake. (https://www.16thstreetstation.com)
The proceeds of the Mothers Day Flower Sale benefit WOW Farm, which provides job training to 45 low income Oakland youth each year. WOW Farm is a project of Game Theory Academy, an education nonprofit founded by a Yale SOM alum.
This is an outdoor farm-and-get-dirty event. Dress appropriately, especially shoes.
