Nashville Conflict Resolution Center helps individuals and families de-escalate and resolve conflict through mediation. Since 2000, NCRC has worked with Davidson County Courts and select partner organizations to provide free mediation services to clients from structurally disadvantaged communities that suffer disproportionate rates of violence, poverty, and low educational outcomes. NCRC uses a restorative approach to conflict resolution that is professional, Rule 31-compliant, and trauma-informed, recognizing that most of its participants have a complex trauma history and live with toxic levels of stress.
One of NCRC’s challenges is providing appropriate follow-up help for its participants in the form of phone calls. Yale volunteers are being enlisted to make friendly, “just checking in” phone calls to recent mediation participants with the aid of a script. Other volunteer opportunities include helping prepare for the Center’s “Prom,” writing thank you notes, handling data input and web design, and conducting video interviews.
