This year on the Yale Day of Service, May 13, 2017, Yale volunteers will partner with Messob Ethiopian Restaurant to host a workshop for parents on how to prepare their children for college. Information will be shared to benefit parents of elementary, middle, and senior high school students.
Prior to May 13th, Yale volunteers and representatives of Messob will meet to plan the event, determine programming, devise ways to advertise the event, and determine ways of recruiting Yalies and parents to participate. Questions from parents, especially immigrant parents, will be collected so that programming to address their particular concerns may be planned.
The event will be held at Messob, located in West Los Angeles, in the event dining room, from 3pm until 5pm. There is space for upwards of 25 parents and 20 Yalies to participate. Please note that childcare services will not be provided. The session will be designed to meet the needs of parents and not students.
The event will be interactive and engaging, and will include large group and small group activities.
Light refreshments will be served.
Once the event is over, the event organizing team will collaborate to determine what follow-up and future collaboration would look like and how it would be conducted. Future collaboration may involve similar workshops for students.
