Reading to Kids is a grassroots organization dedicated to inspiring underserved children with a love of reading, thereby enriching their lives and opportunities for success in the future. Volunteers read a selected book aloud to small groups of grade schoolers; craft time comes next, followed by each child being given a book of his/her own. More information can be found at www.readingtokids.org, which will open first-come, first-served sign-ups for the May 13th clubs on approximately April 10th.  For further details about the program or about a Yale Club contingent, please contact organizer Steve Baumgartner.
Some fine print: Readers are college-age and above.  New readers typically undergo a background check with regard to child safety. While first-time volunteers are usually paired with an experienced volunteer, groups occasionally have three readers - so if you would like to read with a cohort, please inform Reading to Kids at sign-up *and* notify Steve, who’ll make special requests for Yale pairs to be in triads.
