Grand Rapids: Habitat for Humanity

Sponsoring Club:
Yale Club of Western Michigan
When:
Saturday, May 13, 2017
8:30am to 4:00pm
Where:
648 4th St NW
Grand Rapids, MI 49504
Description:
We will be working on the framing for a four-unit housing project, with 2 units of two-bedrooms and 2 units of three-bedrooms. Potential homeowners are being vetted right now, and might include veterans. These units are located in the “Challenge Scholars” district. If kids of these families attend the Grand Rapids public schools and maintain a specific GPA, the “Challenge Scholars” program will enable them to get either two or four years of college paid for in the state of Michigan. The “Challenge Scholars” program is funded through the Grand Rapids Community Foundation.

Each participant can drive to the job site and park there. Habitat will have experienced supervisors teaching us what to do and how to get the work done, with their tools and equipment. Our volunteers are asked to wear comfortable work clothing, sturdy shoes, and bring work gloves.
