Description:
Denver currently is undergoing an urban agriculture revolution, and the Denver Public School (DPS) system is leading by example. Yale Day of Service volunteers last year helped set up the Schmitt Elementary School farm for the growing season, which produced (together with the McGlone Elementary School Farm) over 11,000 lbs of USDA Grade A produce distributed directly to DPS student lunches at the beginning of the school year.

May 13 happens to coincide with the peak of farming tasks at the Schmitt Elementary farm. Come ready to move some dirt with parents, students, and teachers and really make a difference in helping to get the Schmitt farm up and ready for the 2017 growing season.

We will again partner with Ngo’s Cycling Pals, who will set up on-site a skills course and a free repair and tune-up shop run by a team of professional bike mechanics for volunteers and the local community – so feel free to bring your bike(s) for a spa treatment. This will also be the 4th year that we fundraise to give bikes and vegetable gardens-in-a-box to the local community.

Please make sure to bring a hat, water bottle, a snack, and sunblock.
