Eat to Live Englewood/E2L is a project to build a healthier local food system and economy near 70th Place and South Princeton Avenue in the Englewood community of Chicago. Our mantra is “Everything Good Grows in Englewood.”
E2L’s original Learning Garden at 7029-35 S. Princeton Avenue occupies two vacant lots where frame houses from the late 1800s once stood on 10,660 square feet, or almost ¼ acre. We began the Garden with community volunteers and Yale Elementary School students in 2011.
The Garden shows neighbors and visitors how to grow food organically and intensively in a small space like a city lot or backyard. Crops include annual vegetables and herbs, as well as perennials like berries. The Garden integrates landscape plants that offer food and shelter for beneficial insects and pollinators, enriching the neighborhood ecosystem.
Come join us for a spring day of garden prep work. Possible activities include mulching, weeding, and planting. Wear closed toed shoes, and bring gloves if you can. Tools will be provided.
