Description:
GallopNYC provides therapeutic horsemanship lessons for people with disabilities, and the participants from the Yale Day of Service would assist.

We would start the day with training for the Yale Volunteers - how to work with the horses and riders, and how to work safely around the horses.

All of our riders need some level of support - generally, volunteers will walk alongside the horse and support the rider. They will help the rider succeed in whatever way the rider needs. They will prompt the rider to follow the instructor’s directions, and prompt the rider as necessary. Some riders only need “cheerleading,” while others need physical support.

Also, for Yale volunteers that are interested, we can teach you to leadwalk the horse - this is a very important job, helping to make sure that the horse is an active participant in lessons!

It’s a very fun, exciting day of service.

There will be two shifts of volunteers:
